Four expats arrested in Salmi desert for stealing sand from govt property

The Jahra Governorate Criminal Investigation Department, in coordination with the Jahra Governorate Municipality, foiled an operation involving the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Al-Salmi desert area when four people were taken into custody for using unlicensed heavy machinery to extract and sell sand illegally from state-owned property.

According to the Ministry of Interior, authorities received information about unlawful sand extraction activities taking place in the area following which investigation teams launched inquiries and coordinated with the Jahra Municipality to carry out a field raid at the site.

During the operation, security personnel seized heavy machinery that was being used to extract and transport sand. Four individuals were arrested while allegedly supervising the site and conducting illegal sand sales operations.

Investigations revealed that one of the suspects was a Syrian national, two were Egyptians, and the fourth a Bangladeshi who was also wanted in connection with outstanding arrest warrants in addition to an absconding report filed against him by his sponsor.

The Ministry confirmed that all suspects, along with the confiscated equipment, have been referred to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
