Fake case endangering Kuwaiti-Egyptian relations, verdict set for April 9

The Court of Appeal postponed rulings on State Security and ISIS cases, with the "fake tweeter" case set for April 9. One citizen was sentenced to five years for ISIS ties, while another was acquitted.

The Second Criminal Circuit of the Court of Appeal held its first appeals session at the new Palace of Justice. However, the circuit reserved its ruling on the State Security cases, which is expected to be delivered next week.

The Court of Appeal headed by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid and including Counselors Saud Al-Sanea and Tariq Metwally, decided to postpone the case of a fake tweeter to be heard on April 9.

The citizen is accused of broadcasting false news that endangered Kuwaiti-Egyptian relations and insulting expatriate consultants on the “X” platform through a hashtag related to actor Bayoumi Fouad’s contract to present a program at the Ministry of Information.

The Criminal Court had previously ruled to fine him 2,000 dinars for insulting expatriate consultants and misusing a means of communication, such as the telephone, but acquitted him of the remaining charges.

The same circuit postponed the case involving membership and financing of ISIS, as well as the establishment of a website to disseminate the group’s ideas.

Two citizens are accused in this case: the first, a soldier in the Ministry of Defense, was sentenced to five years in prison, while the second, an assistant engineer, was acquitted.
