Kuwait cracks down on reckless driving with vehicle impoundment, jail and deportation

The Ministry of Interior has reaffirmed that it will show zero tolerance toward speeding violations on the country’s roads, warning motorists that strict penalties will be enforced against reckless drivers to protect the road users and reduce serious traffic accidents.

The ministry explained that Kuwaitis caught speeding at 150 km/h will face strict punishment and their vehicles will be impounded, while expatriates committing the same offense will additionally face deportation from the country.

Authorities stated that tougher measures will apply to drivers exceeding 170 km/h. Kuwaitis will receive a traffic citation, face precautionary detention, and have their vehicles impounded. Expatriates will similarly face vehicle impoundment and deportation in addition to the traffic violation.

The ministry added that the harshest penalties will target motorists driving at speeds reaching 200 km/h. Kuwaitis will face traffic violations, vehicle impoundment, and referral to prison, while expatriates will be subject to traffic penalties, confiscation of their vehicles, and deportation from Kuwait.

The ministry stressed that these measures form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen road safety, deter reckless behavior, and preserve the lives of road users, emphasizing that the law will be applied firmly against all violators without exception.
