Embassy of Türkiye Participates in Recycling Initiative
The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Kuwait actively participated in a recycling event organized on 1 June under the framework of Kuwait’s Healthy City Project, in cooperation with the Asimah Governorate and Dahiyat Abdullah Al Salem. The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices within the community.
The event focused on the collection and recycling of a wide range of materials, including used household cooking oil, glass bottles, cardboard and paper, plastic waste, used clothing, and electronic waste. The Turkish Embassy contributed to the initiative both institutionally and through the active participation of its staff members.
The recycling drive also attracted strong community involvement, with Kuwaiti volunteers joining the effort at designated collection points. Residents demonstrated their commitment to environmental protection by delivering recyclable materials to the waste collection area established at the event site, reinforcing a shared vision for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Speaking during the event, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Tuba Nur Sönmez, highlighted the significance of the Zero Waste Project launched under the patronage of Türkiye’s First Lady, H.E. Emine Erdoğan. The ambassador briefed participants on the project’s achievements and its successful implementation across Türkiye, while also outlining the country’s broader environmental policies and sustainability goals.
Ambassador Sönmez noted that the Embassy of Türkiye in Kuwait has adopted practices consistent with the Zero Waste Project and continues to demonstrate institutional responsibility in promoting environmental sustainability and responsible waste management.
The Embassy’s commitment to environmental stewardship was previously recognized when it received a Certificate of Achievement for collecting 1.1 tons of recyclable paper during 2025. The recognition reflects the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to support sustainability initiatives and foster environmental awareness both within the diplomatic mission and among the wider community.
The participation of the Turkish Embassy in the recycling initiative underscores the growing importance of international cooperation and community engagement in addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainable development goals.
