Civil Aviation hails ‘historic’ ICAO resolution against Iranian airspace violations

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) on Wednesday lauded the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council’s historic resolution condemning Iranian violations of the airspace and sovereignty of Gulf states and Jordan.
In a press statement, PACA chief Sheikh Eng. Humoud Mubarak Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Sheikh emphasized that the resolution delivers an “unequivocal message” that state sovereignty and the safety of international civil aviation are inviolable obligations.
He underscored the ICAO’s commitment to activating all legal instruments to safeguard the global aviation system from “reckless military threats,” affirming that Kuwait’s sovereignty remains a “red line.”
Sheikh Humoud noted that during the ICAO’s 237th session, Kuwait presented a comprehensive briefing to member states detailing the “severe damage” inflicted upon its civil aviation infrastructure and facilities as a result of these hostilities.
He added that other affected nations similarly provided testimonies regarding the operational and structural impact of the attacks.
Following two days of deliberations, the Council adopted the firm resolution based on a formal Kuwaiti protest and a joint working paper submitted by a coalition including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, and Morocco.
Sheikh Humoud concluded that the consensus reflects the “strength and cohesion” of the international community in upholding the Chicago Convention and international law.
