Citizenship review tightens; 172 persons stripped of Kuwaiti nationality in dual decisions

In a decisive move reflecting the continued enforcement of nationality regulations, the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigation has issued two decisions resulting in the withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from a total of 172 individuals.
The decisions were published on Tuesday in a supplement to the official gazette Kuwait Alyawm, outlining the legal basis and scope of the measures taken in accordance with the provisions of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 on the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments.
The first decision stipulates the revocation of citizenship from six women under Article 10 of the law, which provides that a Kuwaiti woman forfeits her nationality if she marries a foreign national and acquires her husband’s citizenship.
The second and broader decision covers 166 individuals whose citizenship was withdrawn under Article 11, which states that a Kuwaiti national loses citizenship upon voluntarily acquiring a foreign nationality.
The latest measures underscore the state’s commitment to enforcing nationality laws and regulating citizenship status in line with established legal frameworks.
