
Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, held talks in Beijing with Pakistan FM Ishaq Dar. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in the Gulf and the Middle East and jointly proposed a five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
1. Immediate ceasefire
China and Pakistan called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a halt to military actions. Both sides urged efforts to prevent further escalation and spillover of the conflict, while ensuring the delivery of humanitarian and relief supplies to all affected areas.
2. Launch of peace negotiations
The two countries emphasized the need to initiate peace talks as soon as possible. They stressed respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence of Iran and Gulf states. Dialogue and diplomacy were described as the only viable path to resolving disputes, with all parties encouraged to commit to peaceful solutions and refrain from the use or threat of force during negotiations.
3. Protection of civilians and non-military targets
China and Pakistan underscored the importance of safeguarding civilians in armed conflict. They called on all parties to immediately cease attacks on civilian populations and non-military targets, adhere fully to international humanitarian law, and stop strikes on critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, desalination plants, electricity systems, and peaceful nuclear installations.
4. Security of maritime routes
Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, both countries urged all parties to ensure the safety of stranded vessels and their crews. They also called for the safe and orderly passage of civilian and commercial ships and the swift restoration of normal navigation in the waterway.
5. Upholding the UN Charter
China and Pakistan reaffirmed the importance of genuine multilateralism and strengthening the role of the United Nations. They called for joint efforts to establish a comprehensive peace framework that ensures lasting stability, in accordance with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law.
