US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that two US service members were killed in action and another remains missing following Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan.
According to a CENTCOM statement issued from its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, the casualties occurred on July 17 during defensive operations alongside partner forces to intercept the incoming missile and drone strikes.
The statement added that four other American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals for treatment and have since been discharged. Additional personnel evaluated for minor injuries have already returned to duty.
CENTCOM noted that it is withholding further information, including the identities of the casualties, out of respect for the families and in accordance with standard defense protocols until 24 hours after the completion of next-of-kin notifications.
