Kuwait Customs Busts Marijuana Shipment Hidden Inside Dates

Drug shipment concealed in postal parcel from Thailand intercepted at Air Cargo Customs

The General Administration of Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle marijuana concealed inside dates in a postal parcel arriving from Thailand through the Air Cargo Customs Department.

Customs inspectors became suspicious of the parcel, which was declared in its documents as containing “dates.” A detailed inspection led to the discovery of 104 pieces of marijuana, weighing approximately 549 grams, carefully hidden inside the dates in an attempt to mislead officers and bypass customs controls.

The seizure was made due to the vigilance and experience of customs officers in inspection and control procedures. The authorities immediately coordinated with the General Directorate for Drug and Alcohol Control, resulting in the arrest of the accused, a Sri Lankan national, upon receiving the package.

Legal procedures are being completed, with a seizure report being prepared before referring the accused and the confiscated items to the relevant authorities for further action.

The General Administration of Customs said the operation reflects its continued efforts to strengthen control at Kuwait’s entry points and prevent attempts to smuggle narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances into the country.

The seizure follows directives from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah to tighten customs monitoring and enhance security measures at ports. The Customs Administration also stressed the importance of developing inspection systems, improving targeting procedures, and strengthening the capabilities of customs officers to detect various smuggling methods.
