Ceasefire between Israel, Lebanon extended for 45 days

The United States announced on Friday that it has extended the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon for an additional 45 days, as diplomatic efforts continue to stabilize tensions in the region.

According to the US State Department, negotiations between the two sides are scheduled to resume on June 2 and 3, focusing on security arrangements and broader de-escalation measures.

The statement also indicated that a separate security-focused negotiation track between Israel and Lebanon is expected to be launched at the Pentagon on May 29, signaling deeper US involvement in mediating the process, according to news reports.

The extension comes amid ongoing regional tensions, with Washington seeking to prevent renewed escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border and maintain the fragile calm established by the initial ceasefire agreement.

Officials emphasized that continued dialogue remains essential to sustaining stability and avoiding further military confrontation in the area.
