Campaign launched to raise awareness for children with disabilities
The “Take Care of Them to Bloom” initiative, by the Public Authority for Disability Affairs and Kuwait Fire Force, raises awareness and ensures safety inspections across schools, nurseries, and institutions to ensure compliance with security requirements and protect students’ lives.
• A team of experienced consultants and specialists will be available throughout the “Take Care of Them to Bloom” campaign to assist parents and address any questions related to psychosocial issues and physical therapy for children with disabilities.
Wafaa Al-Muhanna, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Disability Affairs, confirmed that the “Take Care of Them to Bloom” campaign, which benefits all children in Kuwait, particularly those with disabilities, aims to raise community and family awareness about the needs of children with disabilities, as reported by Al Jarida newspaper.
Under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, the Public Authority for Disability Affairs, represented by the Early Intervention Center for Disabled Children in South Al-Sabahiya Complex, launched the awareness campaign “Take Care of Them to Bloom” at The Avenues Complex.
Al-Muhanna, told Al-Jarida newspaper, “In coordination with the authority, the Kuwait Fire Force has begun field tours across all our educational entities, including nurseries, schools, centers, and institutions, to ensure compliance with all necessary security and safety requirements, safeguarding the lives of students with disabilities in these institutions.”
She emphasized that minister Al-Huwailah’s instructions in this regard are clear: ensuring these entities’ adherence to the requirements is a priority, as the safety and well-being of people with disabilities take precedence over all other considerations, providing a secure and protected environment to prevent any harm.
Al-Muhanna also revealed that the authority is working to launch a case study unit for persons with disabilities, as part of its strategic initiatives in the 2020/2025 development plan. This unit will assess the social, psychological, economic, and therapeutic aspects of individuals with disabilities.
Therapeutic programs
Specialists will compile comprehensive files for each case to determine the necessary therapeutic programs, the person’s economic status, and the need for prosthetic devices. The commission is in the process of discussing the launch of this unit.
Returning to the event, Al-Muhanna confirmed that the campaign “Take Care of Them to Bloom,” launched by the authority through the Early Intervention Center for Disabled Children in South Al-Sabahiya Complex, coincides with the continued celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The campaign serves Kuwaiti children in general, and people with disabilities in particular, aiming to increase community and family awareness about disabilities, especially among children.
Dr. Mona Al-Hamdan, Head of the Early Intervention Department at the center, explained that the campaign, which began on Sunday, will continue for seven days, with morning and evening sessions. It is open to all children, not just those with disabilities, from newborns to age ten.
A team of experienced consultants and specialists will be available throughout the campaign to assist parents and address any questions related to psychosocial issues and physical therapy for children with disabilities.
The campaign will also feature a “Children’s Corner,”offering specialist play therapy that encourages children to move away from the virtual world and engage in real-world activities such as drawing, coloring, and artistic activities that promote creativity and foster human communication and interaction away from screens.
