The “Pathways to Wellness: Advancing Mental Health in Kuwait” event gathered top experts, stakeholders, and advocates discussing the urgent need for improved mental health awareness and care in Kuwait.

AmCham Kuwait, in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson (J&J), hosted the Pathways to Wellness: Advancing Mental Health in Kuwait event on January 20. The event gathers top experts, stakeholders, and advocates discussing the urgent need for improved mental health awareness and care in Kuwait.

Recognizing the rising global prevalence of mental health challenges and the unique needs of the Kuwaiti population, this event aimed to foster open dialogue, promote evidence-based solutions, and encourage collaborative action among key stakeholders.

The event also provided a platform for participants to gain deeper insights into the latest advancements in mental health care, explore innovative approaches to addressing stigma, and discuss strategies to improve access to quality mental health services for all.

In his remarks, Pete Swift, Chairman of AmChamKuwait, stated that “This event highlights a crucial aspect of health and wellness: our mental well-being. Addressing this topic is essential, not only to break the stigma surrounding mental health but also to emphasize the importance of early intervention and strong support systems across all sectors.”

Chairman Swift also extended gratitude to Johnson & Johnson, a valued member of AmCham Kuwait’s Chairman’s Club, for their integral role in making this initiative possible.

Special acknowledgment was given to Pedro Matos Rosa, Managing Director at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Gulf, for the company’s dedication to advancing healthcare both globally and locally.

The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Andrew Baldwin, Psychotherapist at the Kuwait Counseling Center and Vice-Principal, with an impressive lineup of experts who shared diverse perspectives on mental health care and policy development.

Pedro Matos Rosa, Managing Director at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, shed light on the company’s innovative approaches to mental health care. Dr. Joanne Hands, Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Advocate, provided valuable insights into strategies for reducing stigma and enhancing access to mental health services.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Khadhari, Psychiatrist and Founder of AWAN Clinic, offered a valuable perspective on mental health care from a private practice standpoint. Dr. TatjanaColin, UNICEF Representative in the Gulf Area, highlighted the critical mental health challenges faced by children and adolescents and outlined available support mechanisms.

Dr. Aseel Al Ibrahim, Specialist in General Psychiatry and Women’s Mental Health at the Kuwait Center for Mental Health, addressed the unique challenges and considerations specific to mental health care in Kuwait.

Interactive Q&A and networking

The engaging panel discussion was followed by an interactive Q&A session, providing attendees with the opportunity to gain deeper insights from the experts.

The event concluded with a networking session, fostering meaningful connections among healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and business leaders committed to advancing mental health initiatives in Kuwait.
