Albania: An emerging gem on global tourism map

Tucked away in the heart of the Balkans, Albania is an emerging gem on the global tourism map — offering a unique blend of unspoiled natural beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality.

From its crystal-clear beaches along the Ionian and Adriatic seas to its rugged mountain ranges, tranquil lakes, and charming towns, Albania captivates visitors with its diverse landscapes and authentic cultural experiences.

Albanian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Ilir Hysa

Safe, affordable, and visa-free for many travelers, including Kuwaitis, Albania invites exploration and promises unforgettable adventures for those seeking a refreshing alternative to mainstream European destinations.

With a blend of natural beauty, economic promise, and strong cultural ties, the Albanian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Ilir Hysa, has painted a compelling picture of Albania as a welcoming partner for tourism, real estate ventures, and charitable initiatives.

From the symbolic prest ige of Kuwait Airways landing in Tirana to the shared values reflected in Albanian hospitality and Islamic heritage, Ambassador Hysa underscores the strength and future potential of the Albanian–Kuwaiti relationship. The highlighted Albania’s growing appeal as both a travel destination and an investment hub for Kuwaitis.

Albania, he noted, received over 12 million tourists last year, with Tirana International Airport ranked the third fastest-growing airport in Europe. The country is also preparing to open a second international airport in the southern coastal city of Vlora.

Lucrative Investment Opportunities

Ambassador H.E. Ilir Hysa urged Kuwaiti business leaders to tap into Albania’s booming construction and real estate market, where he says “returns are rapid and assured.” Properties are often sold before completion, and prices in Tirana are steadily rising. He also pointed to opportunities in tourism infrastructure — hotels, resorts, factories, and public-private partnerships in infrastructure.

“Even charitable endeavors can be seen as lasting investments,” he added, referring to the construction of mosques, schools, and hospitals, often in collaboration with Albania’s Islamic authorities. “Kuwait is among the top supporters of such initiatives,” he said, proudly noting that Kuwait has helped build nearly 70% of the country’s 900 mosques through donations from generous Kuwaitis. “Kuwait’s impact is visible in every corner of Albania,” he said.

A Hidden Gem for Tourists

On tourism, Ambassador Hysa described Albania as an untouched jewel: a land of safety, serenity, and breathtaking diversity. “From soaring mountains and tranquil lakes to meandering rivers and stunning coastlines, Albania has it all,” he said, encouraging Kuwaitis to visit and experience its hospitality and natural beauty firsthand.

He highlighted the northern regions where communities of Bedouin ancestry still thrive, drawing parallels to Kuwaiti traditions of generosity and warm welcomes. Infrastructure across Albania, he added, has been significantly enhanced, thanks in part to the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and Islamic traditions are fully respected, with mosques available nationwide.

Visa-Free Access and Strong Bilateral Ties

Ambassador Hysa also pointed out the ease of travel: Kuwaiti citizens do not need a visa to enter Albania and can stay for 90 days every six months. This privilege also extends to holders of Article 17 passports.

He concluded the interview by emphasizing the depth of Albanian–Kuwaiti relations, proudly noting that the Kuwaiti Embassy in Tirana is located in one of the city’s most prestigious neighborhoods, and that the street leading to it bears the name “Kuwait Street” — a lasting testament to the respect and admiration Albania holds for Kuwait and its people.
