Social Affairs tells coops to end services of employees over 67 within 30 days
The Ministry of Social Affairs has instructed cooperative societies and their unions to identify employees who are 67 years old and above take necessary steps to terminate their services in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and decisions, while ensuring they receive all their financial and employment benefits.
An official source said the ministry has contacted the Union of Cooperative Societies to circulate a memorandum to the boards of directors of cooperative societies, urging them to promptly implement the required procedures.
The measure is part of the ministry’s efforts to regulate employment conditions and support job replacement plans in the cooperative sector, the source said. The ministry said the directive aims to develop the cooperative sector, improve the efficiency of its human resources and create opportunities for young and qualified national talent, in line with state efforts to develop human capital and support the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035.
Cooperative societies and unions have been asked to provide evidence that the directive has been implemented, along with a list of employees covered by the termination procedures, within no more than 30 days of receiving the memorandum.
The source stressed that boards of directors must comply with the directive, citing its importance in improving workplace efficiency, sustaining institutional performance and supporting the empowerment of national competencies in the public interest.
