Cabinet approves new media law regulating influencers, digital advertising

The Cabinet has approved a new Media Regulation Law establishing rules governing influencers, advertising content creators and digital advertisements directed at the public in Kuwait. Under the new law, influencers and advertising content creators will be required to obtain licenses to carry out activities covered by the legislation.
They must also clearly disclose advertising content directed to the public in Kuwait, whether the promotion is paid or provided without compensation. The law establishes an electronic licensing system to regulate the procedures for obtaining licenses and conducting media and advertising activities covered by its provisions.
Its scope includes embedded advertisements, reviews, giveaways and contests, as well as content produced using artificial intelligence. The legislation also criminalizes false or misleading advertising and unlicensed funding intended to influence public opinion, establishing clearer regulatory controls for digital advertising and content.
