CID men arrest government employee over theft of storage devices

. . . stolen items sold to computer shop, no intention to steal data

The Ministry of Interior has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the theft of several storage devices belonging to a government agency and arrested a citizen employed by the agency in connection with the case.

The ministry said the theft was discovered during an inventory of the agency’s property. Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department, Capital Governorate, using modern technical methods identified the suspect and whisked him away for interrogations.

Investigators found that the accused took advantage of the government building when no one was around, stole the devices and sold them to a computer shop, from where some of the stolen items were recovered.

During interrogation, he has reportedly confessed to stealing and selling the devices, saying his intention was not to obtain the information or data stored but to make money.

The investigation also revealed that the suspect had a previous criminal record involving several theft cases and had recently been released from the Central Prison. The necessary legal measures were taken against him, and he has been referred to the competent authorities.
