US can maintain blockade of Iranian ports indefinitely, says Hegseth

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Thursday that the United States has the military capability to maintain a blockade of Iranian ports indefinitely, signaling that Washington can sustain the pressure for as long as necessary.

Speaking to reporters, Hegseth said the US Navy could continue enforcing the blockade without a fixed end date by rotating ships in and out of the region. “The US Navy can continue to enforce this blockade indefinitely, as we will rely on rotating ships going in and out, as we have done previously, and we will continue to do so.”

Hegseth’s remarks indicate that the United States has sufficient naval assets to sustain the operation through continued rotations of its warships.
