‘Iraqi invasion anniversary symbolizes resilience and sacrifice’
Minister of Commerce and Industry Osama Boodai said the 36th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait remains a lasting symbol of the resilience, sacrifice and unity demonstrated by the Kuwaiti people in defending their homeland and restoring its sovereignty.
In a statement to KUNA on Sunday, Boodai said the events of August 2, 1990, proved that national unity and solidarity were the foundation for confronting the occupation, liberating the country and safeguarding its achievements. He noted that the experience also highlighted the importance of building a strong national economy capable of withstanding crises and exceptional circumstances.
The minister emphasized that economic security is an essential component of national security, stressing that strengthening food security, supporting local industries, ensuring market stability, maintaining the availability of essential goods and protecting supply chains are all key pillars in safeguarding the nation’s interests. He said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry continues to work closely with relevant authorities to reinforce these priorities.
Boodai added that Kuwait’s history has shown the value of investing in human capital, strengthening public-private partnerships and creating a business environment that supports productivity and sustainable economic growth. Such efforts, he said, enhance the country’s ability to respond to regional and global challenges while advancing its long-term development goals.
Paying tribute to Kuwait’s martyrs, resistance fighters and all those who defended the nation during the occupation, the minister said their sacrifices will continue to inspire future generations and reinforce the values of loyalty, patriotism and national belonging.
He prayed for the continued security, stability and prosperity of the country under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
