Egyptian suspect allegedly changed expiry labels before reselling spoiled products to restaurants; authorities seize 3.1 tonnes of rotten fish and additional quantities of spoiled meat.

Kuwait’s General Department of Criminal Investigation has arrested an Egyptian national accused of changing expiry-date labels on spoiled fish and meat and reselling the products to restaurants.

The arrest followed information received by the department about a warehouse containing quantities of spoiled fish and meat. Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly removed expired labels from the products and replaced them with new labels showing extended expiry dates before selling them to restaurants.

The suspect was arrested, and a cold storage facility in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area was raided in coordination with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition. Acting on information provided by the suspect, authorities also inspected a refrigerated truck used for storing meat.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 3.1 tonnes of spoiled fish, 68 bags of spoiled meat and an additional 108 kilograms of spoiled meat.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition issued violations and disposed of the seized spoiled fish and meat. The suspect was referred to the competent authorities for necessary legal action.
