Iran’s military has accused the United States of escalating tensions in the Middle East and warned neighboring countries against providing any support to Washington as hostilities between the two sides intensify.
In a statement broadcast on state television on Saturday, Ali Abdollahi, head of Iran’s military central command, said the United States was “rapidly moving down the path of escalating tensions” in the region.
He warned that any country acting as a “defensive shield” for the United States would face serious consequences, saying such nations could be “engulfed by the flames of war.”
The warning came after US President Donald Trump reiterated his threat to strike Iran “very hard” if tensions continue to escalate.
Meanwhile, US media reports said the Trump administration is considering launching another round of large-scale military strikes as early as this weekend, with Iranian energy infrastructure among the potential targets.
Iran and the United States resumed exchanging fire earlier this week following several days of relative calm, dw.com reports.
However, no new strikes were reported overnight from Friday into Saturday, raising hopes of a temporary pause despite the increasingly volatile situation.
