From hotels and shopping malls to hospitals, banks and fuel stations, security surveillance cameras have become an essential part of everyday life in Kuwait as authorities continue to strengthen public safety and crime prevention.
The Ministry of Interior has reiterated that a wide range of public and commercial establishments are legally required to install security surveillance cameras and monitoring systems under Law No. 61 of 2015, reminding business owners of their responsibilities to comply with the regulations.
The ministry said the law is designed to enhance security, protect people and property, assist law enforcement agencies in investigating incidents and provide a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.
The regulations apply to numerous establishments where large numbers of people gather or where valuable assets require additional protection.
These include hotels and hotel apartments, shopping malls, cooperative societies, residential complexes, banks, youth centers, sports and cultural clubs, gold and jewelry shops, shopping and entertainment centers, hospitals and clinics, fuel stations, mosques and other places of worship, industrial areas, sea anchorages, shooting ranges, as well as warehouses storing valuable or hazardous materials.
Beyond installing surveillance systems, the ministry stressed that operators must retain camera recordings for 120 days, ensuring footage remains available should it be needed for security investigations or legal proceedings.
The Ministry of Interior has urged owners and operators of covered establishments to ensure full compliance with the law and maintain surveillance systems in accordance with the prescribed standards.
