Traffic crackdown in Kuwait sees 16,721 violations in seven days

Dozens detained, vehicles impounded; speeding, mobile phone use top violations

The General Traffic Directorate recorded 16,721 traffic violations over the course of a week, along with hundreds of vehicle seizures and dozens of arrests, according to weekly statistics released by authorities.

The data covered the period from June 15 to June 21 and showed that enforcement teams also impounded 354 vehicles and five motorcycles during the week. Authorities said 42 individuals were placed in custody.

In addition, seven juveniles were arrested for driving without a valid licence, while 31 residency-related violators were apprehended. This group included six individuals with registered absence cases and 26 persons classified as wanted by law enforcement.

Traffic authorities also dealt with 1,215 road accidents and collisions during the same period and received 2,339 traffic-related reports.

On a single day, 2,790 violations were recorded, highlighting the intensity of enforcement activity. Of those, 174 were detected by radar systems.

Other violations included 24 breaches of towing regulations, 79 cases of illegal window tinting, 94 instances of mobile phone use while driving, 33 speeding violations, 71 truck-related offences and 60 cases of drivers and passengers failing to wear seat belts.

Officials said the figures reflect ongoing efforts to improve road safety and enforce traffic laws across the country, amid continued concerns over reckless driving and non-compliance with regulations.

Authorities regularly conduct monitoring campaigns using radar systems, patrol units and automated surveillance to reduce accidents and enforce discipline on the roads.
