Kuwait to become first overseas hub for Lebanese biometric passports in July

In a major step aimed at improving consular services for Lebanese expatriates, the Lebanese Embassy in Kuwait is set to launch a new biometric passport issuance service at the beginning of July, becoming the first Lebanese diplomatic mission abroad to adopt the advanced system.
The move will allow Lebanese residents in Kuwait to apply for and receive new biometric Lebanese passports directly through the embassy, eliminating the need to travel to Lebanon for fingerprint registration and passport processing.
According to informed sources, the official launch ceremony will be attended by Lebanon’s Interior Minister, Ahmed Hajjar, who is expected to visit Kuwait to inaugurate the service at the Lebanese Embassy headquarters.
The initiative is being viewed as a significant qualitative leap in the services offered to the Lebanese community in Kuwait, particularly amid growing demand for faster and more efficient consular procedures.
The project also forms part of Lebanon’s broader strategy to modernize the issuance of official documents and expand electronic and biometric services across its diplomatic missions overseas.
Sources revealed that a specialized team from the Lebanese General Security Directorate has already arrived in Kuwait and begun the technical and logistical preparations required to activate the system, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The work includes installing biometric equipment, conducting operational tests, and training embassy personnel on handling applications and operating the new technology according to approved procedures.
Kuwait has been selected as the first international launch point for the project outside Lebanon, with plans to later expand the experience to Lebanese embassies across Gulf countries before eventually rolling it out worldwide.
The new system is expected to ease administrative burdens on Lebanese expatriates and significantly reduce the time and cost associated with renewing or obtaining biometric passports.
