Kyrgyz President Thanks UN Member States for Backing Security Council Bid

President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, has expressed his gratitude to United Nations member states for supporting Kyrgyzstan’s successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
In a letter addressed to heads of state and government, President Zhaparov described Kyrgyzstan’s election on June 3, 2026, as a “historic victory” and said the outcome reflected the confidence and trust placed in the country by the international community.
He noted that Kyrgyzstan views its election not only as a significant achievement but also as a major responsibility toward all members of the United Nations.
Outlining the country’s priorities during its tenure on the Security Council, President Zhaparov said Kyrgyzstan would focus on strengthening international peace and security, conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. He also emphasized the importance of increasing the role of small and developing states in global decision-making processes.
The Kyrgyz leader highlighted the need to integrate climate, water, mountain, and environmental challenges into the international security agenda, underscoring their growing impact on global stability and sustainable development.
President Zhaparov conveyed his sincere appreciation to all countries that supported Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy and reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to serving as a responsible, constructive, and transparent partner on the Security Council, working to advance peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation.
He also extended special thanks to the Philippines for its participation in the election campaign, describing the contest as one conducted with dignity, mutual respect, and adherence to the principles of the United Nations.
Concluding his message, President Zhaparov conveyed his best wishes for peace, prosperity, and well-being to the peoples of all UN member states, while reiterating Kyrgyzstan’s dedication to contributing positively to global peace and security during its upcoming Security Council term.
