12 injured in shooting near Ohio Community Festival, two in critical condition

According to the Gun Violence Archive, 172 mass shootings have been recorded across the US so far this year.

At least 12 people were injured, including two critically, after gunfire erupted near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday evening, authorities said.

According to Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan, an active search is underway for those responsible for the shooting, which occurred near the annual Old West End Festival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that at least two individuals were involved in the exchange of gunfire and may have been shooting at each other.

The Toledo Police Department said officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 5:37 p.m. Upon arrival, police discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Several injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Videos circulating on social media showed festival-goers running for safety as gunshots rang out, while emergency responders attended to victims at the scene.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expressed concern over the incident, stating that community festivals should remain safe places where families can gather without fear of violence.

The Old West End Festival, a two-day annual event held in Toledo’s historic district, attracts hundreds of visitors and features live music, food vendors, and home tours. Local officials said several hundred people were present when the shooting occurred, dw.com reports.

The incident adds to growing concerns over gun violence in the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, 172 mass shootings have been recorded across the country so far this year.

Police have not yet announced any arrests, and investigations remain ongoing.
