Kuwait Education Ministry adopts achievement assessment in place of short test scores
New evaluation system aims to enhance student performance tracking and reduce reliance on traditional testing methods

Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has approved the adoption of “achievement assessment” as an alternative to the marks previously allocated for short tests, according to a report by Al Rai.
The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the educational evaluation system and introduce more comprehensive methods of measuring student performance throughout the academic term.
Under the new system, achievement assessment will focus on continuous evaluation of students through class participation, assignments, projects, and overall academic engagement, rather than relying solely on periodic short tests.
Educational sources indicated that the decision is intended to provide a more accurate reflection of students’ understanding and skills, while also reducing exam-related pressure.
The ministry emphasized that schools will implement the revised assessment mechanism in line with approved academic guidelines, ensuring consistency across public education institutions.
Officials noted that the shift aligns with broader plans to develop the education sector, improve learning outcomes, and adopt more flexible and student-centered evaluation approaches.
