Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said the security authorities seized over 100 kilograms of marijuana and hashish worth about US $4 million and arrested three suspects.
The smuggling operation began in Iran using the dead drop method, in which items are secretly left at an agreed spot for others to pick up later, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The narcotics were later sold and distributed in Bahrain in the same way. It added that, upon verifying initial information about the case, authorities conducted investigations, surveillance, and evidence-gathering, which led to the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
The seized items included sums of money in various currencies, materials used in smuggling and distribution, as well as two boats utilized in transporting the drugs from Iran.
The ministry noted that the confiscated items have been secured, that legal procedures have been taken, and that the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
