Canada hails 2026 FIFA World Cup as global blueprint for unity
. . .security and international cooperation

Canadian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Tara Scheurwater, affirmed that her country’s hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in partnership with the United States and Mexico represents “a powerful example of what countries can achieve through sustained international cooperation.”
In a press statement marking World Football Day, which falls on Monday, May 25, Scheurwater said that the 2026 World Cup is the largest and most ambitious edition of the tournament in history and reflects the importance of regional coordination and international partnerships in an interconnected and complex world.
She added that preparations for the World Cup have strengthened cross-border cooperation in the areas of security coordination, information sharing, and joint operational planning to ensure a safe and successful global event.
She noted that Canada is approaching the 2026 World Cup with a vision based on openness, mutual respect, and inclusivity, drawing on its experience in hosting the Women’s and Men’s World Cups and its commitment to showcasing the diversity of its society and culture, respecting differences, and the necessity of unity and shared goals.
The Canadian envoy explained that this effort reflects Canada’s broader international role in promoting security, economic resilience, and people-to-people relations, adding that “these pillars not only ensure the tournament’s success but also contribute to long-term stability and shared progress.”
Ambassador Scheurwater emphasized that the core message of this historic tournament is that building trust deepens cooperation and strengthens the foundations for shared success. She expressed her pride in the partnership with the State of Kuwait; a partnership built on human ties and shared interests in supporting regional stability and prosperity.
She went on to say that cooperation between Canada and Kuwait is continuously growing, encompassing culture, education, trade, defense, security, healthcare, information and communication technology, energy, and sports.
The United Nations declared May 25th of each year as World Football Day, celebrating the world’s most popular and influential sport and its role in promoting peace and sustainable development.
This day was formally adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2024. This day also marks the centenary of the first international football tournament in history, which brought together teams from all continents during the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 11th.
