Caring for mental health of families is investment in nation’s future: Dr. Al-Huwailah

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, said caring for the mental health of families and children is not a luxury, but an investment in the nation’s future and a cornerstone of creativity and giving.
Her remarks came during the opening of the First Forum and Exhibition on Mental Health, organized by the Ministry’s Awareness and Guidance Center under the theme “Point of Contact… Reading into Children’s Behavior,” coinciding with World Mental Health Day.
Dr. Al-Huwailah emphasized that the forum serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of mental health as a fundamental human right, while supporting national efforts to empower individuals and families to overcome psychological and social challenges free from stigma.
She highlighted that the Ministry aims to strengthen the family-based mental health system through awareness and counseling programs, in cooperation with schools and specialized centers, to build a balanced environment that supports children’s healthy development.
The Minister further noted that the forum seeks to equip parents with communication skills and behavioral understanding tools, enabling them to engage positively with their children through active listening and constructive dialogue.
At the conclusion of her speech, Dr. Al-Huwailah expressed appreciation to the Awareness and Guidance Center team and the forum’s partners — the Arab Planning Institute, Tanmia Charity Association, and Elite Research and Development Company — for their contributions to advancing social and family welfare in Kuwait.
