The American government is seeking to remove Google from its ad exchange platform and prohibit the company from operating it for the next ten years.
A US court began hearings on a lawsuit targeting Google’s advertising system, following a request by the government to curb the tech giant’s alleged anticompetitive practices, reported Al Anba newspaper.
This is the second federal case against Google this year, coming after a ruling that found the company had abused its dominant position in the online search market. Unlike that case, the judge rejected the government’s request to force Google to sell its Chrome browser by early September.
The current lawsuit focuses on Google’s advertising platform, which allows website owners to sell ad space and advertisers to purchase it. Months ago, Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled in favor of the US Department of Justice, stating that Google had unlawfully dominated digital advertising technologies.
It remains unclear what penalties or antitrust measures the court may impose on the Alphabet subsidiary, as these will be determined after the hearings conclude.
According to court documents, the US government is seeking to remove Google from its ad exchange platform and prohibit the company from operating it for the next ten years.
