The Kuwait Pharmaceutical Association has signed the Copenhagen Declaration on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), which outlines key commitments such as building partnerships, promoting vaccination, ensuring the rational use of antibiotics, safeguarding pharmaceutical supply chains, and strengthening evidence-based governance and healthcare outcomes, Al Jarida newspaper reported.
The declaration was signed during the 83rd World Congress of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, held in Copenhagen under the theme “Advancing Pharmacy: Performance, Collaboration, and Health Transformation,” with the participation of a delegation from the Kuwait Pharmaceutical Association.
The association’s representative and board member, Dr. Bader Al-Khurainj, indicated that the activities of the conference focused on accelerating the development of pharmaceutical practice and strengthening the professional role of pharmacists worldwide.
Al-Khurainj, a member of the Supreme Council of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, said the council approved key policies on AI in pharmacy, self-care, patient-centered care, and the role of pharmacists in public health and combating non-communicable diseases. The council also elected Dr. Nadia Al Mazrouei from the United Arab Emirates as Vice President with strong regional support.
The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Treasurer Walaa Ma’arifi, visited community pharmacies in Copenhagen to study their integration into the Danish health system and took part in the International Sports Pharmacy Symposium, which addressed doping risks and pharmacists’ roles in sports.
Secretary General Dr. Faisal Al-Enezi stressed the association’s commitment to strengthening ties with international organizations and supporting young pharmacists through student clubs, training, and leadership programs.
He added that these efforts are not limited to representing Kuwait, but also help open new horizons for cooperation with international associations and organizations, thereby enhancing the global standing of Kuwaiti pharmacy. He noted that current initiatives focus on developing young pharmaceutical talent and expanding research and training programs in line with global trends.
During the conference, the association also held preliminary discussions to strengthen cooperation with international professional bodies such as the American Society of Pharmacists, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the Council of Pharmacy Specialties, as well as regional forums of the International Pharmaceutical Federation. The goal is to align pharmacy policies and services in Kuwait with international best practices.
