14 female beggars arrested in nationwide security sweep

Kuwait intensifies campaigns to curb begging and illegal practices; MoI vows zero tolerance on residency and labor law violations; deportation awaits violators and sponsors

The Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of 14 women who were caught begging for alms across the country.

The campaign was carried out by the General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations (Department for Monitoring Violators) within the framework of implementing the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, under the direct supervision of the head of the Nationality and Residency Sector, as part of the ongoing intensive security deployment to apprehend violators of residency and labor laws and combat negative behavior, reports Al-Rai daily.

Those arrested have been referred to the concerned authority in line with Article 22 which permits dependents to join the family (normally husband sponsoring wife and children).

As per the law the sponsor and the violator face deportation since legal action is initiated against employers (sponsors and companies) in coordination with the Public Authority for Manpower.

The General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations affirmed that it will not show leniency toward violators of residency and labor laws, stressing that accountability applies to both workers and employers.

The Ministry emphasized that begging in all its forms is an insult to society and a clear violation of the law.
