Tender delays force extension of Municipality cleaning contract for a year

The Kuwait Municipality has finalized procedures to renew its public cleaning contracts for an additional year starting October 10. The extension, covering 17 contracts, comes as the municipality continues to await regulatory approval for new tenders.
According to municipal sources, the monthly extension costs per contract range between 100,000 and 140,000 dinars.
The delays stem from the time needed to finalize tender mechanisms, review new contract specifications, and complete the six-month documentary cycle before awards can be issued by the Central Tenders Committee.
The new contracts will include amendments aimed at enhancing sustainability, such as improved waste transportation and recycling mechanisms, alongside stricter performance standards. Preparations for these contracts, including environmental consultancy work, have taken nearly two years.
The current contracts, in effect since October 2019, are set to expire on October 10, with a total value of 124 million dinars — saving over 160 million compared to previous agreements.
The upcoming tenders will expand to 19 contracts, including additional agreements for Jahra and Ahmadi governorates to cover growing residential and agricultural areas.
