Kuwait’s top court upholds jail sentence for former MP in vote-buying case

The Court of Cassation has upheld the two-year prison sentence with hard labor against former Member of Parliament Majed Musaed Al-Mutairi and two others for their involvement in a vote-buying case in Kuwait’s Fifth Constituency.
The court rejected the appeal filed by Al-Mutairi and his co-defendants, affirming the verdict issued earlier by the Court of Appeal, which also sentenced a fourth defendant to four years in prison and ordered him to pay 2,000 dinars fine.
The verdict of the Court of Cassation is final and cannot be appealed.
In another case, Al-Mutairi is awaiting the Criminal Court’s verdict in another case in which he is accused of insulting H.H. the Amir.
The case will come up for hearing later this month.
