Kuwait seeks security ties with Lebanon; says Hezbollah remains on ‘terrorist’ list

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef reaffirmed Kuwait’s unwavering stance on security and regional cooperation during his visit to Lebanon, emphasizing that Hezbollah remains on Kuwait and the Gulf’s terrorist lists, and this status will not change.
Following his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace, Sheikh Fahad underscored Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in security, reports Al-Rai daily.
He praised Lebanon’s historical support for Kuwait during the 1990 Iraqi invasion and expressed optimism about renewed collaboration. “Kuwait and Lebanon are as close as can be,” he said, while calling for reactivating the joint committee that has been dormant for over a decade.
The Interior Minister also emphasized Kuwait’s support for Lebanese stability, saying, “We hope to see security in Lebanon as we have achieved in Kuwait.” He noted Kuwait’s interest in strengthening ties with Lebanon through governmental coordination and people-to-people ties, highlighting the positive role of the Lebanese community in Kuwait. “They are among the least problematic,” he said, expressing hope that their numbers would increase.
On the status of Hezbollah, Sheikh Fahad was firm: “It remains on our list of terrorist organizations, and nothing will change.” He linked this stance to Kuwait’s broader security policy and warned against any attempts by individuals or groups to disrupt Kuwait’s internal stability. “Kuwait’s security is a red line,” he stated. “No party is permitted to operate in Kuwait.”
Sheikh Fahad also commended His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his decisive leadership in security affairs. “The Amir was a security man before he was a statesman. His vision in this area is what Kuwait needs,” he said. Drawing a parallel, he added that President Aoun also brings valuable security insight to Lebanon during challenging times.
The visit underscores Kuwait’s diplomatic outreach to Lebanon amid broader regional challenges, with a continued focus on stability, mutual respect, and firm counterterrorism policies. The activation of the joint committee may mark a new chapter in Kuwait-Lebanon cooperation if formally relaunched.
