
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the death of a Qatari citizen and the injury of an Arab resident after their boat was struck by shrapnel resulting from the ongoing military operations in the region.
The ministry said in a statement that, during routine monitoring procedures carried out by the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, authorities noticed that a boat carrying two people had failed to return at its scheduled time, prompting maritime patrols to launch an immediate search operation on Saturday evening.
It added that, in the early hours of Sunday, the General Directorate’s maritime search and rescue team located the boat and confirmed that a Qatari citizen had died after being hit by shrapnel caused by the military operations in the region.
An Arab resident who was also on-board sustained injuries and was transferred to the hospital for treatment. His condition is stable, the ministry said.
The ministry extended its sincere condolences and sympathies to the family of the deceased. It affirmed that the competent authorities are continuing the necessary legal procedures and investigations into the incident. – Kuna
