KILAW concludes successful second summer program in London

The Kuwait International Law School (KILAW) has successfully concluded its second annual summer program in London, held in collaboration with the University of Essex.

The program took place at the prestigious Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London, offering participants a unique and enriching educational experience that built on the success of last year’s inaugural edition, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Muqate’i, President of KILAW, expressed pride in the program’s continued growth and success, highlighting its role in expanding international academic cooperation and exposing students to advanced legal education in a global context.

Dr. Suha Al-Turkait, the college’s International Cooperation Coordinator, explained that the two-week program featured intensive academic study through three specialized courses: European Union Law, Islamic Financial Transactions, and E-Commerce Law. These were delivered by faculty from both the University of Essex and KILAW, along with contributions from distinguished guest speakers.

The program attracted diverse student participation, including KILAW students and non-degree students from Kuwait and abroad—among them, students from the University of Warwick. This international mix fostered academic exchange and provided exposure to a variety of educational and cultural perspectives.

In addition to coursework, the program included high-profile field visits — most notably to the UK Supreme Court — and featured special events such as a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UK, Bader Al-Munaikh, and a lecture on Kuwaiti-British relations. Participants also attended a seminar on pursuing postgraduate studies in Britain. A legal lecture was co-delivered by Dr. Ali Al-Zumai and Dr. Al-Muqate’i.

Dr. Dana Al-Duaij, who supervised the London Summer Program, noted that students responded with great enthusiasm, describing the experience as transformative. She emphasized the program’s positive impact on enhancing students’ academic and analytical skills while offering them a valuable window into the world of international legal education.
