Ambassador Dooms highlights strength of Belgian-Kuwaiti ties amid high-level trade visit

Business delegation’s presence in Kuwait represents a meaningful step toward strengthening bilateral economic relations and exploring avenues of collaboration aligned with Kuwait’s development ambitions.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the State of Kuwait, His Excellency Christian Dooms, underscored the enduring strength of Belgian-Kuwaiti relations and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to advancing these ties across a broad spectrum of fields.

In remarks made to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of receiving a high-level Belgian trade delegation visiting Kuwait from April 28 to 30, Ambassador Dooms emphasized that the visit reflects Belgium’s sincere desire to deepen cooperation with Kuwait.

The delegation comprises representatives from over 40 leading Belgian companies engaged in sectors such as cybersecurity, renewable energy, sustainable development, healthcare, and construction, in addition to business leaders from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Ambassador Dooms noted that the delegation’s presence in Kuwait represents a meaningful step toward strengthening bilateral economic relations and exploring avenues of collaboration aligned with Kuwait’s development ambitions.

He added that the visit includes discussions aimed at reinforcing economic engagement, highlighting that the delegation had earlier held a constructive meeting with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss practical frameworks for enhancing trade and investment exchange.

The Belgian envoy expressed hope that the visit would serve to showcase Belgian expertise and open new horizons for mutual cooperation, stating, “Our nations share a long-standing friendship and history of collaboration, which we now seek to elevate to even greater levels of partnership.”

Isabelle Griba, CEO of the Brussels Economic Development Agency, echoed these sentiments in a statement to KUNA.

She affirmed that the participation of more than 40 Belgian companies reflects Belgium’s strong interest in forging new partnerships with countries in the region—particularly with the State of Kuwait.

Griba emphasized that the delegation embodies the diversity and innovation of the Belgian economy and is committed to presenting its capabilities to Kuwait’s public and private sectors.

She further noted that the visit aims to bolster cooperation in critical fields such as infrastructure, healthcare, and sustainable energy, all of which are central to Kuwait’s future vision.

The Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the visiting delegation and reaffirmed, in an official statement, the importance of Kuwaiti-Belgian economic ties. The Chamber highlighted that the volume of bilateral trade reached approximately $253.5 million in 2023 and pointed to existing joint investments, particularly in infrastructure, real estate, and financial services.

Mr. Qaisar Hijazin, Secretary-General of the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, also expressed his satisfaction with the fruitful engagements held during the visit. He called for continued joint efforts to realize shared objectives, citing Kuwait as a key investment partner, particularly in Belgium’s energy sector through strategic oil and gas ventures.

During the visit, the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority delivered a presentation on the “New Kuwait 2035” vision, outlining major national projects and prospective partnership opportunities. Belgian companies, in turn, showcased their services, innovations, and project capabilities across diverse sectors.

The delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with over ten Kuwaiti governmental institutions and numerous private sector entities, further reinforcing the growing economic and investment ties between the two friendly nations.
