Kuwait rolls out 3rd national campaign to ease citizen’s debts

The Ministry of Social Affairs has launched its third national campaign to raise funds for settling the debts of financially burdened citizens. Running for a month, the initiative aims to provide much-needed relief.
This campaign aligns with the directives of Kuwait’s political leadership and reinforces the state’s commitment to assisting financially distressed citizens. The Ministry of Social Affairs has implemented a structured mechanism to ensure aid reaches those who genuinely need it, adhering to strict guidelines and standards in collaboration with accredited charitable organizations and foundations.
Charitable organizations will collect donations through their own networks while strictly adhering to criteria that ensure fair distribution. To qualify, beneficiaries must be Kuwaiti citizens with outstanding non-criminal financial obligations and must provide official proof of their inability to repay.
Donations will be directly allocated to the relevant authorities to settle debts, either through the Civil Enforcement Department at the Ministry of Justice for individuals facing enforcement measures like travel bans, vehicle impoundments, and salary seizures or through the General Department for the Implementation of Criminal Judgments at the Ministry of Interior for detainees in correctional institutions. This structured approach guarantees transparency in legal procedures.
The Ministry of Social Affairs clarified that the campaign will exclude debts resulting from illegal or prohibited transactions, as well as those related to telecommunications companies or informal financing entities, as they do not align with humanitarian priorities.
Additionally, citizens who have previously benefited from past debt relief initiatives will not be eligible. This measure, implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Justice and participating charitable organizations, aims to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of aid.
