Kuwait rakes in KD 22.4 million from agricultural production
The country produced approximately 200,500 tons of 72 varieties of agricultural products which include vegetables, fruits, and foliage during the first nine months of 2024.
• Domestic agricultural production reached 98.85 thousand tons worth KD 9.143 million in Q1 2024. This declined by 23.9% to 75.225 thousand tons and KD 9.06 million in Q2, then fell significantly by 64.8% in Q3 to 10.744 thousand tons worth KD 1.967 million, totaling approximately KD 4.867 million.
Official data showed that Kuwait produced approximately 200,500 tons of 72 varieties of agricultural productswhich include vegetables, fruits, and foliage, during the first nine months of 2024, with a total value exceeding KD 22.4 million, according to Al Rai newspaper.
According to data from the General Directorate of Statistics, domestic agricultural production recorded 98.85 thousand tons worth KD 9.143 million in the first quarter of 2024. This figure decreased by 23.9 percent to 75.225 thousand tons and KD 9.06 million in the second quarter, and then declined significantly in the third quarter by 64.8 percent, dropping to approximately KD 4.867 million and recording 10.744 thousand tons worth KD 1.967 million.
Tomatoes topped the list of the highest produced agricultural products in Kuwait during the first nine months of 2024, with about 68.066 thousand tons valued at KD 5.04 million. Cucumbers followed with approximately 40.887 thousand tons worth KD 4.48 million, then potatoes with 15.66 thousand tons valued at KD 2.173 million.
Peppers ranked fourth with 12.341 thousand tons worth about KD 2.42 million, followed by eggplant with 15.833 thousand tons valued at KD 2.093 million. The total quantities of these five items amounted to approximately 15.28 thousand tons, which constituted about 76.2 percent of the total quantities produced in nine months, with a total value of KD 16.212 million, accounting for about 72.38 percent of the total value of agricultural products.
The total Kuwaiti production of various agricultural products is as follows: lettuce amounted to 10,660 tons worth KD 945,400, permours totaled 6,124 tons worth KD 588,200, owra reached 1,160 tons worth KD 530,000, cauliflower was 4,812 tons worth KD 415,766, zucchini came to 2,400 tons worth KD 403,760, lobea produced 936 tons worth KD 364,000, beans were 933.7 tons worth KD 329,700, cabbage was 4,863 tons worth KD 252,390, corn totaled 1,321 tons worth KD 218,200, and aressamounted to 1,315 tons worth KD 204,000.
