India’s passport portal offline for five-day maintenance

The government announced that from August 29 to September 2, no new appointments can be made at passport centers, and existing appointments will be rescheduled.

  • The Passport Seva portal will undergo technical maintenance from Thursday, August 29 at 20:00 IST (17:30 Kuwait time) until Monday, September 2 at 06:00 IST (03:30 Kuwait time).

  • The passport and related services will not be available at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait or at the ICACs operated by BLS International Services from August 29 at 16:30 Kuwait time until Sunday, September 1.

The Indian government has announced that the online passport application portal will be closed for maintenance for the next five days. During this period, no new appointments can be scheduled, and existing appointments will be rescheduled, according to Indian news channel NDTV.

The Passport Seva portal will undergo technical maintenance from Thursday, August 29 at 20:00 IST (17:30 Kuwait time) until Monday, September 2 at 06:00 IST (03:30 Kuwait time), according to a press release by the Indian embassy in Kuwait.

The passport and related services (including Tatkaal passport and PCC) will not be available at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait or at the Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) operated by BLS International Services from Thursday, August 29 at 16:30 Kuwait time until Sunday, September 1.

Consular and visa services will continue to be provided at ICACs operated by BLS International.

The Indian news channel further reported that the system will not be available during this period for citizens, as well as for all MEA, RPO, BOI, ISP, DoP, and police authorities. Appointments already booked for August 30 will be rescheduled, and applicants will be informed accordingly, according to a note on the Passport Seva portal.

India’s External Affairs Ministry said this is a routine procedure. “For rescheduling appointments, we always have contingency plans. Maintenance activities for public-centric services, like Passport Seva Kendras, are planned in advance to minimize inconvenience to the public. Therefore, rescheduling appointments will not be a challenge,” a source from the ministry said.

The Passport Seva portal is used to book appointments at centers nationwide for new passport applications or renewals. On the appointment day, applicants must visit the passport centers with their documents for verification. After verification, a police check is conducted, and then the passport is delivered to the applicant’s address. Applicants can choose the regular service, which delivers the passport within 30-45 working days, or the Tatkaal service, which provides faster delivery.
