British envoy inaugurates renovated Sunshine Kindergarten
British School of Kuwait approaches its 50th anniversary

- H.E. Qudsi Rasheed, British Ambassador to Kuwait, said, “I am delighted to see the longstanding educational ties between the UK and Kuwait embodied in a school that continues to innovate and prepare future generations.”
British Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Qudsi Rasheed, visited the British School of Kuwait (BSK) and The Sunshine Kindergarten (TSK), where he toured the facilities and explored the schools’ educational programs, met with school leaders and student representatives, and inaugurated a commemorative plaque marking the completion of TSK’s extensive renovations. The visit highlighted the longstanding educational and cultural ties between Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
The presentation of the plaque at TSK was a key moment during the visit, marking the completion of extensive renovation and development works carried out over recent years. These improvements included modernizing the kindergarten’s facilities and learning environments, drawing on specialist expertise from the UK to create an enhanced setting that supports children’s learning and development in their early years, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

The occasion also carried particular historical significance as BSK prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. The school’s journey began at TSK, which served as the foundation for an educational institution that has grown over the decades to offer education across all school phases, through to Year 13.
In a statement marking the occasion, Ambassador Qudsi Rasheed said, “It was a pleasure to visit The British School of Kuwait and The Sunshine Kindergarten, and to inaugurate TSK’s newly refurbished facilities. I was impressed by the modern learning spaces and advanced technology, and even more so by the students’ confidence, ambition and thoughtful ideas.

“As BSK approaches its 50th anniversary, it is wonderful to see our enduring educational ties reflected in a school that continues to innovate and prepare young people for the future,” the Brirish envoy added.
During his visit, the Ambassador toured classrooms and educational facilities at both the school and kindergarten, observing teaching approaches and learning activities. He also met students from different year groups, alongside teachers and members of the TSK team.
The Ambassador also met with student leaders and discussed the initiatives they lead through their various committees. These initiatives span academic development, physical and mental wellbeing, community engagement, school events, fostering a sense of belonging, and student media and communications.
Discussions also explored their experiences of the British education system, including IGCSE and A Level qualifications, as well as their aspirations for university and future careers.

As part of the visit, the Ambassador met with BSK Founder and Director Madam Vera Al-Mutawa MBE and Principal Emma Bowie, continuing the school’s ongoing engagement with the British Embassy on matters of shared educational interest.
As BSK approaches its 50th anniversary, the school continues to develop its learning environment while remaining true to the British roots that have been central to its identity since it first opened in Kuwait.
