Kuwait to launch car umbrella licensing system by October

The Kuwait Municipality is finalizing the system and will conduct a trial period before its official launch.

  • The Kuwait Municipality is finalizing the last stages of the umbrella licensing system, based on the new draft regulation. This regulation allows for the licensing of umbrellas for private housing at a rate of half a dinar per square meter, payable as a one-time fee.

The system for issuing car umbrella licenses across residential, investment, commercial, agricultural, craft, and industrial areas, as well as government buildings, by the Kuwait Municipality will be completed and integrated with the government’s ‘Sahel’ app by October, sources revealed to Al Jarida newspaper.

The sources indicated that the municipality is finalizing the last stages of the umbrella licensing system, based on the new draft regulation. This regulation allows for the licensing of umbrellas for private housing at a rate of half a dinar per square meter, payable as a one-time fee. The information systems sector is preparing to set a trial period for the system, which will not exceed two weeks before it is integrated with the ‘Sahel’ app.

Sources emphasized the need for the system to be fully operational, noting that the number of license applications could reach tens of thousands in each governorate. The system must ensure ease and speed in processing data, managing space, and handling fee payments without causing significant delays for users.

It is noteworthy that the fees for establishing car umbrellas are outlined in Article VII of the draft car umbrella regulation. The first paragraph states, “The licensee must establish car umbrellas outside the limits of the property in private and typical housing areas and pay a fee of half a Kuwaiti dinar per square meter for the license. This fee is to be paid once at the competent department in the municipality, in accordance with the decision regulating the fees for municipal services.”

The second paragraph specifies, “The licensee must establish car umbrellas outside the limits of the property in government and private agencies, investment housing areas, industrial, craft, agricultural, and other use areas, and pay a fee of one Kuwaiti dinar per square meter for the license. This fee is to be paid once at the competent department in the municipality, in accordance with the decision regulating the fees for municipal services.”
