The Men’s National teams of Hong Kong -China, Kuwait and Malaysia will compete in a T20 International Tri-Nations Cup. This tournament, which offers ICC team ranking points, will take place from August 21st to 27th, 2024, at Selangor Turf Club, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The series will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing two matches against each other before a final match that shall determine the deserving champion.
Kuwait Cricket is the organizer and co-host of this Tri-Nations Cup, partnering strategically with the Malaysian Cricket Association, which will be the commercial partners and host to the tournament. This will serve as the ideal preparation for the teams, ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia sub-regional Qualifier A, also in Malaysia, starting from August 30th, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur.
Mr. Haider Farman, President of KCC, expressed his sheer excitement about this groundbreaking event, as it marks a significant milestone for KCC to organize & co-host a tournament outside of Kuwait with higher ranked teams. He declared that this is just the beginning of many initiatives that are underway by the KCC Board and wished all the participating teams the best of luck.
Mr. Sajid Ashraf, Director General at KCC, expressed that Kuwait’s experience in organizing international events has grown significantly in recent years with its skilled management. He emphasized that strategically KCC has to keep on moving by breaking barriers through innovative solutions for its national team’s progress, and this is just one of them with a lot more to follow, including for the national women’s team as well.
Head coach & development manager of KCC Mr. Qasim Ali after having tasted the grand success of List A Status for Kuwait mentioned that the team has been working extremely hard in the scorching heat of Kuwait throughout the summer and is quite well-prepared for the tournament, seeing it as an excellent opportunity to acclimatize to the conditions ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Malaysia later in August 2024.
Mohammad Aslam, the successful captain of the Kuwait Men’s team, thanked the KCC Board for providing such opportunities for associate players to showcase their talents on an international stage such as this, and mentioned that his boys are absolutely pumped up and looking forward to the tournament.
Mr. Dinesh Muthuraman, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Cricket, expressed his delight and pride in collaborating with Kuwait Cricket to co-host the upcoming T20i Tri Nations Cup as the commercial partners. The Malaysian Cricket management ensured its full support to the tournament and will try its level best to cater to the needs of the players during the tournament. They hope everyone will enjoy their famous hospitality.
Mr. Ravi Nagdev, Head of Operations, Cricket Hong Kong, China stated that he is thrilled to participate in the upcoming T20i Tri Nations Cup. He emphasized that this event has come at the perfect time for the players to prepare for the upcoming World Cup T20 Qualifiers later this month in Malaysia, and is grateful to Kuwait Cricket and Malaysia Cricket for organizing & co-hosting the tournament.
The matches will be broadcasted live on the social media channels of Malaysia Cricket, Kuwait Cricket & the FanCode digital platform, with coverage starting from 21st August.
Kuwait Cricket is in talks with the ICC to have its Tri-Nations Cup live streaming covered on the icc.tv platform as well which will also be a first of its kind.
