Kuwait Summons Iranian Ambassador Over Embassy Statement

Foreign Ministry protests alleged interference in Kuwait’s internal affairs and judicial independence

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, summoned Wednesday Iranian Ambassador in Kuwait Mohammad Totounji to hand him a note of protest regarding a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait.

The statement contained a blatant interference in Kuwait’s internal affairs, infringed upon its sovereignty, and challenged the independence of its judiciary, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said in a press release, terming this as an obvious violation of international laws and norms.

The Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated Kuwait’s emphatic rejection and condemnation of any interference in judicial rulings issued by its national courts. He called on the Iranian side to adhere to international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in states’ domestic affairs, as well as the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. – KUNA
