The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health (MoH) provided an update on its response to the fire incident that occurred at a labor building in the Mangaf area on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the Health Minister, confirmed that hospitals affiliated with the MoH received 56 patients injured during the fire. The ministry activated its emergency plan upon notification of the accident, ensuring a coordinated response across five hospitals: Adan, Mubarak, Farwaniya, Jaber, and Jahra.

The injuries sustained by the patients varied in severity. 41 individuals required admission to internal medicine, surgery, or orthopedics departments. These patients presented with conditions ranging from smoke inhalation (including carbon monoxide poisoning) and burns to fractures sustained in falls.

Critically, nine of the admitted patients required intensive care treatment. However, there is positive news, as 11 individuals have already been discharged following successful treatment and stabilization of their health.

Medical teams were also deployed to the fire scene, where they treated 11 individuals. Tragically, four of these patients succumbed to their injuries while being transported for further care.

The death toll at the scene itself was reported at 45, bringing the total number of fatalities from the fire to 49.

Dr. Al-Awadhi, on behalf of the MoH, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. He also extended his well wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all those injured in the fire.
