500 volunteers unite to restore Kuwait’s desert ecosystem to beautify tomorrow

In a powerful push for environmental sustainability, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), hosted “Environment Day” at Al-Liyah Reserve in Jahra Governorate under the inspiring slogan “Let’s plant today for a more beautiful tomorrow.”
In a statement, the institute emphasized that the event aims to raise environmental awareness and instill a culture of sustainability across all segments of society. It also seeks to provide an interactive educational experience, encouraging active participation in protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity.
The statement also quoted Jahra Governor Hamad Al-Habashi, who emphasized in his speech the crucial role of environmental initiatives in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.
Engineer Dana Al-Anzi, head of the Environment Day event, highlighted in her speech that efforts to rehabilitate Kuwait’s desert ecosystem align with “Kuwait Vision 2035” and the “Sustainable Development Goals 2030”. She emphasized that these initiatives play a vital role in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development in the northern region, which is set to host new residential and economic projects.
Al-Anzi also provided a detailed overview of the environmental competition held alongside the event, designed to inspire participants to showcase innovative ideas that contribute to protecting and preserving the desert ecosystem.
The event saw an impressive turnout of over 500 volunteers from various volunteer teams, institutions, and companies, along with enthusiastic school and university students. Together, they planted between 500 and 2,000 seedlings of native plants, contributing to the restoration and sustainability of Kuwait’s desert ecosystem.
