The Supreme Committee of Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority has approved the tendering of the Dabdaba Power Generation Project and the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project – Phase III (the first project).

The 1,100-megawatt renewable energy initiative will now be offered to qualified companies for implementation, reports Al-Rai daily quoting reliable PPP sources.

The sources explained that the project, which will span 18.1 square kilometers, will utilize photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate electricity. The contract with the selected investor will be for a duration of 30 years.

They added that there is ongoing coordination between the PPP Authority, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research concerning the preparation of project documents, the company prequalification process, and the procedures for tendering and awarding the project.

During the same meeting, it was also decided to schedule the tendering of the first phase of the Khairan Power and Water Desalination Plant. This project, with a planned capacity of 1,800 megawatts of electricity and 33 million gallons of water per day, will be offered to qualified companies by June.

The sources noted the commitment of the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, to accelerating the awarding of these strategic projects and securing regulatory approvals. The aim is to begin implementation as soon as possible to strengthen Kuwait’s electricity grid and water reserves.
