Naturalization without merit no longer tolerated, says Supreme Committee

The Supreme Committee has decided to revoke the citizenship of two former secretaries of the National Assembly.

Sources informed Al-Rai that although a letter previously submitted by one of the former secretaries may have once sufficed to secure the citizenship, in the current era focused on national identity and reform, naturalization based solely on personal recommendations is no longer considered adequate.

The sources also revealed that the citizenship of a Kuwaiti — born to a Kuwaiti mother — was revoked in the interest of national security.

The decision followed his conviction for crimes involving dishonor and dishonesty, for which he received a prison sentence. Authorities acted in accordance with the law to revoke his citizenship.
