Water reserves to hit 60 per cent amid surge in summer demand

In a proactive effort to reinforce Kuwait’s water security ahead of peak summer demand, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has brought several desalination units back into service following phased maintenance work, according to informed ministry sources.
The move comes as part of the ministry’s broader strategy to increase the strategic reserve of freshwater, with current expectations that reserves will reach approximately 60 percent within the next week. This boost is intended to ensure a stable supply during the high-consumption summer months, according to Al-Jarida daily.
Sources noted that remaining distillation units are undergoing expedited maintenance and will be returned to service shortly, with the goal of meeting the anticipated spike in demand caused by rising temperatures and increased household and commercial water usage.
The official emphasized that daily monitoring of storage and production levels is being carried out by ministry teams to maintain supply stability. She added that the ministry is in continuous coordination with relevant authorities to secure the necessary spare parts and operating materials, ensuring that technical teams can complete all tasks without delay.
In addition to regular procedures, the ministry has also activated emergency preparedness plans to handle any unexpected issues, including potential equipment malfunctions during operation.
This coordinated effort reflects the ministry’s firm commitment to maintaining a robust and reliable water production system throughout the summer season, reinforcing the country’s readiness to manage seasonal resource pressures effectively.
